Take advantage of upcoming community events to create room in your file drawers for 2009 paperwork, and move out unused (or broken) electronics from your home. 

Here are a few tips to make this happen:

  • Schedule the dates and times on your calendar today; 
  • Remind yourself a few days beforehand to collect things; 
  • Arrive early to avoid a long wait in line.

Safe & Secure Community Shred Event

-Saturday December 13, 2008

 

Identity theft is one of America's fastest growing crimes. Shredding your personal papers is one of the best ways to protect yourself.

NBC4, PNC Bank and Shred-It have teamed up to bring you the next NBC4 Safe & Secure Community Shred event on Saturday December 13, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.  Bring up to five boxes of your personal papers, CDs and old credit cards and we'll shred them for FREE! (A $50 value for attendees.) You must drive up and not walk in with materials to be shredded. No business or commercial material will be accepted! All cars must be in line by 11 a.m. in order to be served.

 

Directions To Montgomery County Fairgounds:  I-270 North, take Exit 10 (Clopper Road/Rte. 117). At the third traffic signal, turn left onto Perry Parkway. The entrance to the fairgrounds is approximately ½ mile on the right.  Note: There will be no access to Perry Parkway coming from North Frederick Road/Rte. 355 after the traffic circle. To enter the fairgrounds, vehicles must enter Perry Parkway via West Diamond Avenue/Rte. 117)

Electronics Recycling Collection Event 
- Sunday December 14, 2008

 

Montgomery County (MD) Division of Solid Waste will be holding an electronics recycling collection event on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Walt Whitman High School, 7100 Whittier Blvd, Bethesda, MD from Noon to 4 p.m

 

This collection event is open to all Montgomery County residents.  Proof of Montgomery County residence is required (driver's license & vehicle registration). 

 

Accepted items include: small electronic appliances, calculators,  camcorders, CDs and floppy disks, CD players, cell phones, computers and computer-related products, consumer electronics, copiers, cords and cables (including chargers), digital cameras,  electronic typewriters, fax machines,  microwave ovens, personal digital assistant equipment, printers, projection equipment,  scanners, telephones, small electronic toys, televisions (up to 3), VCRs (no videotapes).

Regular collection of electronics for recycling is also accepted at the Montgomery County (MD) Transfer Station, Monday through Sunday 9am-5pm, located at 16101 Frederick Road, Derwood, MD 20855, (Rt. 355 near Shady Grove Rd.).  Visit this link for detailed hours, information and future event listings.
